Bran nue dae!

Yesterday I saw a great movie, called bran nue dae. Yep thats how its spelt!
What a brilliant little Aussie flick.
It made you laugh, and sing a long.
Ernie Dingo was fantastic in it.
Even Jessica Mauboy was good. I didnt think she would be.
Now like Molly says, do yourself a favour, and go see it.
I know you will love it.
Magda Szubanski is absolutly hilarious in her small roll.
I now want to find the movie soundtrack.
The songs are very catchy, even if some are a bit rude.

Blankets and booties

These booties are the first I have ever made. Not bad I think. Ihave made these for babygirls best friends eldest sister. She is expecting her babe late april or may.
We know its a boy so I made the blue blanket for her as well. I might even add a pair of slippers for the mama.
What do you think?

Pickled Beets and wooly Socks

This is my attempt at knitting socks. So far it looks like it should, I think.

And these are the jars of beetroot that I preserved today. They will be ready to eat in about a week.
All the nectarines are gone. I have a couple of fruit monsters living in the house so no nectarine jam this year unless my MIL gives me some of hers.

Feeling a little lost

I am feeling a little lost and confused today. Acually its been coming on slowly, this feeling adrift in a strange new world.
And I have finally discovered what is causing this.
No school!
I havent had to put in booklists, nor pick up these books, organise uniforms and new shoes.
I dont have children in school any more and with all the back to school ads on the telly and radio, its constantly reminding me to do something that I dont need to do, but habit is making me feel like Im forgetting something.
Is this making sense?
Im sure I ll get over it.

Making jam!

We harvested the second lot of plums and we had lots, so I decided to make some jam. Even though the plums were a purple colour they turned a glorious red as they simmered in the pot.

And these plums are whats still left. Our nectarines are next. I may try a plum and nectarine jam.
It should be interesting. Will let you know the verdict when I make it and it gets tast tested.

Having a ball!

My MIL has given me a feed bag full of wool. They are all in skeins and the are water damaged. So I need to wash it all before it can be used. This is some I washed the other day and I have left it out to dry. Then I stretched it across two chairs and started to ball it up.
In this bag is the result of balling up two skeins.

I am hoping to be able to knit work socks with this thick wool for hubby and wonderson to wear to work.
I have found a tutorial on youtube, so I will be trying this soon.
Will let you know how I go.

Current Projects

This is the cows I am working on. If you click on the images they will get bigger. They are the cutest cows ever.
Here is the stack and slash I'm making. With the extra bits I am going to make a pillow case. The pillow case is first. Dam Blogger!

And I have started on the slippers I make and give to everyone at Easter. Easter is in the Autumn here so I started to give everyone socks with there easter eggs. When I learnt to make the slippers I changed to giving them these instead. This year will be the first that everyone will get a pair. Normally I only make them for the kids.

So even though Its been extremely hot here, I have been a busy little beaver inside with the air con on.

Tony Ferguson Wk19

This week on Tony Ferguson I only lost 100grams
I suspect it has something to do with this heat and my not moving around much. Although I am retaining fluid as my rings are very tight again.
Note to self, DRINK MORE WATER!

Grammy asked if I fish in the sea, well sort of. If you click on the map above, south of melbourn you will see Wonthaggi. That bay Wonthaggi is at the south east of is called Westernport. That were we fish.
We enter in at Tooradin which you cant see on the map, but is north of Wonthaggi.
its a beautiful bay full of fish. If you remember those snapper we cought a few weeks ago, we cought those in Port Phillip Bay, which is the large bay that Melbourne is at the North tip of.
End of geography lesson'.

just plodding along

Another hot gusty day, so got all my outside jobs done early. Three loads of washing is now blowing in the wind but will stay out there till it cools down tonight. I hope!
So I have started two new quilts. A stack and slash in purples and maroons, and a cow quilt.
The cows are 6 different stitcheries and are very cute. The border material is a cow print. So I have started to do the stichery today and that will be pretty much what will keep me occupied for the rest of the day.
Too hot to do anything else.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

2010 my first post

Happy new year everyone. This is my first post for the year. How did everyone go on new years?
we had a very quiet one here, with hubby even falling asleep before midnight. So I watched the fireworks on the telly by myself and then went to bed.
Not much has been happening here, just packing christmas away for another year and getting the house back in order.
Today is my 43rd birthday, and I am 9.9 kilos lighter than when I turned 42.
My goal was 10 kilos so close enought I say.
So I'm off to get the morning started before everyone wakes up. Today will be nice weather wise but apparently hot weather in the 40's(104F) is heading our way.
Lots of water for all the animals, and shelter for my poor plants.
enjoy your day
