happily sewing

This is another of the quilts from my book, Jelly Roll Quilts.  Its called Spiral Stripes. It was quite easy to do except for the fact that the strips were not straight. I bought two cheap jelly rolls from Spotlight and they were not cut properly at all. Serves me right will never, ever buy from them again.
But I fuged and pulled and got them to fit as best as I could. Not bad I think. My mum liked this one so I think I will give it to her.
I call this one "thats 70's Quilt". I used the best of the squares and its only small so I will add a couple of boarder to make it bigger. This one will come with me to my trip to Greece in August and I will give it to my aunt. I hope she likes it.
I have nearly finished the candlewicking quilt and as soon as I have finished the boarder I will post some pics. I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Monday morning blues

Im sitting in the office at our workshop. I have just finished typing two invoices for a couple of jobs and although I usually like to come in an spend a few hours here today I would rather be somewhere else
The somewhere else is in my sewing room working on another quilt
I have started another jellyroll and this one is going to be for my mum I think.  Its another pattern to the one I just finished so I hope it looks good when its finished.
But for now I will sit here and man the phones, like a good little secretary and dream of stitching away.
At least I will get to catch up with all your blogs.

Riddle me this

Q: Whats sweet but has no calories?
A:  A jelly roll of course!

This is my jelly roll finished. It turned out pretty good too I think. Looking at it, it reminds me of sitting under some grape vines and eating and drinking with good friends. I think its the purple and green.
I cannot wait to start another one, Ohh what to do first.

valentines day

I hope everyone had a nice valentines day. As it was a work day we had a special day on the Sunday. When we were first married and very poor( money wise). We used to just buy some fish and chips and sit on the beach to eat them.
So this is what we did on Sunday. Not good for the figure but great just to remember what we have been through and how far we have come.
It was a lovely day and we enjoyed ourselves.
To me thats what valenitnes is all about, it not the gifts, it being thankful for all the loves in your life.

The wheel begins to turn

This morning while driving to gym I saw a strange mist floating over the paddocks. I checked the outside temp and it was 11 deg cel. ( 51.8 deg f)
I felt a strange sensation and realised it was cold. The air was crisp and there was a definate feel of Autumn in the air.
And boy am I glad!

A mystery

The other day I received a letter in the mail. Inside was a page from a magazine with a little post it note. On the note it said," I thought you would want to try this. It really works"
then its got a little initial.
I have no idea who sent this to me, as it does not have a return address.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.
To whoever sent it, thank you I will read the article and maybe try the  tea.
Maybe my angels sent it to me.
very mysterious indeed.

Well I never imagined!

I just had a lovely breakfast with my son and he acually admitted that living away from home has made him mature. He also admitted that he was arrogant and lazy while living at home and that he sees what he put us through.
I never imagined he would admit to that!
So I am not a complete failure as a mum after all.
will wonders never cease!

a surprise party

Last night at the quilt shop we had a product night organised to show off all the latest and greatest quilts and kits on offer. The first time they had done one of these. But in reality it was a cover for a surprise 50th birthday for Estelle. Last November we were all given some material and some instructions and we all had to go and make a block of our own choosing. But it had to have a star as Estelle means star.
So last night we all presented her with this quilt and she was overcome. For photos of the quilt and of Estelle crying check out the block Craftquarters. We had a lovely night.

stuff in my head.

Not much happening here. I have not been feeling the best, and I just cannot get outta this funk.
There is stuff going on and Im sure thats got lots to do with the way Im feeling but right now I cannot say what it is. I am feeling like this world is just to harsh to live in and that people will always try to screw you if they can.
I donot understand this thinking. I am a good person who always tries to do whats right and help were I can. So what gives these people the right to take advantage of that!
But tonight I have somewhere to go, and although I cannot say what it will be a good nigh.
Sorry cannot give out too much info at the moment, only tonight is a good thing and I promise I will tell you all about it tomorrow.

Home safe

Baby girl, dear hubby and the new baby are home safe and sound. Tomorrow, if we dont get too much rain, I will get some shots of the new little car and tell you what its name is.
Wonderson has gone to Bendigo to visit with a mate for a few days, so I am still a worry mum as Bendigo is on flood alert.
closer to home, Koo Wee Rup, where my kids went to school and where I have my quilting classes is being evacuated. The hospital has has 50 people moved and residents are being advised to leave the town.
Looks like this is going to get worse before it gets better.
Will keep you all informed.
when will this wild weather end, stay safe everyone.

Pushing the comfort zone

Baby girl and hubby have found a new, well new for her, car and its in Sydney. So at 3.00am this morning we all got up and off we tootled to Avalon airport. This ment that I would be driving home on my own, in the dark, with pouring rain on roads I dont know.
I was no confident at all. But I am happy to say that I got home in a little over an hour safe and sound. I am worried about the hubby and daughter though. We are having some serious rain her in Victoria and flood warnings are everywhere. Even this morning as I was coming home there were a couple of policemen on the road telling us to move over into the right hand lane, 20 minutes later on the radio it said the hwy there was closed due to flooding on the road. I must of just made it through!
The highway through Wangaratta is flooding and it might close so hubby and daughter may have to stop and spend the night before coming home. I will let them know whats happening when they land. Hopefull I get that call soon.
Anyway were ever you are stay safe.

Tropical Cyclone Yashi

Our thoughts are with the people of north Queensland. I pray you are all ok. If you do not feel safe in your homes get out and move south.
Otherwise, bunker down and stay safe.

Free wood

I love getting stuff for free! This is the pine off cuts that gets thrown out at a truss building factory that I pass on the way to gym each morning. There is always someone there collecting the wood for there fires.
As I am driving hubbys ute at the moment, Baby girl has my car still, I have been lucky to be able to fill it to the top and stock up for winter. The wood in the see through crate was the load I got this morning.
Soon the weather will cool down enough for me to start splitting the firwood in the background. There is nothing better than starting the winter with a good stockpile of wood to keep you nice and warm.
