Here we go again

Last night the Sth Gippsland Hwy was blocked and traffic diverted as no less than 3 fires had been started. This ment that I had to get home via the long way around.
Today a phone call from a friend in the CFA told us that he had spent all day yesterday and today putting out fires in our area.
Apparantly the fires yesterday were started by some kids lighting a handfull of matches and throwing them out a car window.
Will this madness never stop.
I hope they catch them real soon. Boy do they deserve a smack on the bum.

A normal weekend, at last.

Friday night I had dinner with 6 ladies that come to our curves. That was very nice as I haven't been out just on my own for over a year.
Then yesterday dear old hubby and I went to a farmers market only a few minutes up the road. It was very good but not much in the way of produce. They all said the same thing, their crops had been affected by the weather and were now waiting for the next lot to grow. This means food will go up!
So now after the next few weeks we will start to prepare out beds for lots of winter veggies.
The heat is going to make a comeback next week.
I hope it is, it's final stand. Then Autumn can begin.
Have a relaxing weekend everyone

The Wheel Turns

This week when I got up early to get to work, there was a difference all around me. It was dark!
Last week the sun was up and bright red in the sky. This week it hadnt even risen yet. This is very exciting for me because I am a winter girl.
I love it that its dark early and I can light all my candles. I love the cold weather because I can light my fire and snuggle under all the nana blankies I have made over the years.
And with winter I love having a hot chocolate and reading a good book in bed before going to sleep.
Whats your favourite season?

What now!

Yesterday got home form work to find my garden near my avery was absolutly destroyed. The sleepers were moved and the few plants that have survived were pulled out and it was all dug up.
Not happy jan!
I asked what the ???? happend here.
Very nicely I assure you.
To be told that a big redbelly black snake was spotted trying to get into the avery, we think.
All the distruction was them trying to find said snake, but it slithered away and we dont know where it when.
So dogs had to be locked up for the night in the pool area to make sure they didnt find it, meanwhile every little noise in the night is now waking me up.
Still dont know who the fire bug is.
If I survive these next few weeks I can survive anything.
Hope your lives are more quiet than mine at the moment.
Thanks for all your thoughts I feel very blessed to have friends in blog land.

update on the home front

Since last nights fire incident we have now had two others. One on saturday morning at about 5.00am. My next door neighbour was going fishing and noticed the fire in the paddock only a few meters past his driveway. This was only metres from the fire hubby and wonderson put out. Then only an hour ago another fire was lit in the same paddock. This time is took all the neighbours and two fire trucks to put it out.
We have a firebug in the area and I am now worried. Do not see me sleeping much tonight.
Please send your protective prayers around us.
We need them.

Valentines day

Although many many people do not feel like celebrating anything, I think that a holiday devoted to love is the one we should celebrate.
So to everyone have a happy valentines day.
Everyone needs love in their lives.

The madness continues

Last night at about 9.30 we received a phone call from wondersons friend. His car had overheated and could he and dear old hubby come and help him.
Its a good thing that car overheated. Not 100 meters past our house a small fire had been started on the side of the road.
Dear old hubby spotted it and he and wonder son put it out.
We all live on properties here so another big fire could have happened.
This morning news of a fire in baxter was on the TV. It apparantly started about 10.00.
This could well have been the same people.
Will they never learn. Very grateful to the universe for overheating a car.
Stay safe and vigilant.

chips anyone

Over the weekend dear old hubby dug up the spuds. It was all his project. He planted them, we both watered them and he dug them up. He planted 25 spuds.
He dug up about 40kilos worth of spuds!
We thought that the extreme heat would of cooked them, but all the sugar cain mulch we put on protected them.
So tonight for tea we are having fritata, with home grown potatoes, zuccines, carrots and eggs.
Yummo

The horror stories continue

Driving baby girl to her dance class I could see the smoke from the bunyip fires.
All day on the telly and on the internet the stories of escaping fires and those that didnt have been haunting me.
Then to see the smoke and know that firefighters were still out there, still fighting and people were still involved with all the horror, felt so surreal.
Its so unreal how only a few kilometers away this was happening and I was doing something so normal.
Hopefully the fires will all be contained soon and everyone can then try to get back to some sort of normalcy in their lives.
My thoughts are with everyone, if we cant afford to donate money, in these hard times we can all donate blood. The blood bank is asking for lots.
I will be doing this as soon as possible.
Stay safe everyone,
Hug those you love and hold them close.

Finally Relief

Finally the heat has gone and right now its raining. Not very heavy but still a very nice sound.
Fires are raging all around our state and up north the floods are worsening.
The weather is extreame. We all have to find ways to cope with the way the world its now.
My poor garden has been through the ringer and our crops will be small this year.
Our winter garden will have to be larger this year and mayber even every year now.
My thoughts go out to all those that are dealing with the fires and floods and with those that have lost loved ones.
God bless.

SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!

I went outside to see how my poor garden was doing and to harvest any produce. I did not go expecting very much, but...
Surprise, Surprise the bushy tomatoes were well protected and I got over 2 kilos of tommies.
I pick apples, nashies, peppers, zuccines and heaps of corn.
The whole lot was so heavy it nearly broke the basket I had taken out to collect with.
Just goes to show you, when you least expect it the universe will provide you with an abundance.
You only have to believe.

The official Start of the new year

The official start of the new year is tomorrow. Baby girl starts her final year at hight school.
Depending on what happens next year she is also starting what could be her final year of dance.
This year will be a year of lasts, and already I can feel the tears starting to well.
By the end of the year both my children will be well and truely adults and I dont know if I'm ready for that.
But ready or not its going to happen so I may as well be happy.
For all those about to start school for the first time, enjoy. and all those at the other end, like me, I hope you find something that you love to do that will fill in the time your children used to.
