today we spent out on the water and it was nice to be able to sit in the sun and catch some fish. hubby wanted to go out of westernport and into the ocean. I was a little scared at first but I did it. He on the other hand didnt have breakfast and spent some time with his head over the side of the boat as it was very choppy and the rocking and rolling made him sick. He felt much better after a sleep. we also got going and headed back into the bay where the water was alot calmer.

And this is what we got, six nice flathead which hubby is now cooking up for our dinner.

pumpkins and tomatoes

this year we decided to plant the pumpkins in with the roses. we had kept the geese in their so the ground was well manured. If you look closely you can see two little golden nuggets almost ready for me to eat.

Here we have the queensland blue, I think, as you can see there are still lots of flowers so I think there are more pumpkins coming. although it might be a little late now. should I remove these do you think?

All the tomatoes are ripening nicely and I spent sunday making this sauce for my spaggetti and slow cooking over winter. some have home grown oregano in them and some have onions from the garden. Yummo!
if your in the south how are your harvests going? Still lots of cucumbers and green tomatoes in my garden, the beans have just about finished but soon the spuds will be dug up.

hello everyone, its been a weird kinda couple of days. I've been keeping busy and I have not been on the computer much. will try and catch up with all your blogs, but for now the heat is on in Melbourne and I have been getting up early to water the vegetables and then taking naps in the afternoon. I hope you are all well, the new way of eating is going well. The detox from sugar is over and no more headaches. So stay cool if your in the heat, and stay dry and warm if its winter in your world.

A hectic week

Hello everyone. I'm back after a terrible week. It started on Monday. Leanne was here enjoying a morning coffee when a phone call from her daughter had us going out the door in a hurry. She was in extreme pain and wanted to go to the hospital. Leanne as if I could go with her and of course I did. We spent the day in cases medical emergency and after the decided it was just constipation sent us home. Poor tiff spent the next 24 hours in pain until Wednesday night the pain got so bad again leanne took her to dandenong hospital. They said that she would not go home until they found out what it was. Wednesday we waited all day for scans to be done and she was scheduled for surgery to have her appendix taken out. But an emergency came in so she was delayed till Thursday. Thursday came and she whent in for her surgery and when she came out they said that they found something else and a doctor would speak to leanne about it. Now knowing Leanne's history of ovarian cancer, she freaked out and rang me. I got hubby to drop me off at the hospital and her step mum Rebecca was there too. She had received the same phone call and we both didnt want her to be alone. So it was the three amigos again. The doctor did come and see us and bec had to go. So lea and I waited. We were getting anxious by this stage and leanne decided to speak to someone's the nurse was nice and told her it wasnt cancer on the file probably an infection.So we left and hopefully tiff was told last night exactly what it was or leanne will find out today. Let me tell you I am exhausted. During all this I had a balance from mym old kinesiology teacher and I have been put on a new diet to cleanse my liver. No meat, no dairy, no eggs. So during this I have been having the headache from hell as my body gets used to the healthier way of eating. Detoxing is never fun. So there you are I hope your week has been less hecticSee ya

possum

This little critter is a bushy tail possum. Not really sure if its his official name but thats what we call them. he has been living the good life in my roof about my bedroom for well over a year. I have gotton used to him coming and going but hubby never heard him. Until recently! As soon as it interfered with his sleep he didnt bother to do anything about it. But now he cant sleep in like he wants, so we borrowed the trap from a neighbour and last night fluffy here took the bait. My daughter named a possum who used to live in our roof when she was a little girl fluffy, it helped her not be afraid of he noises it made.
You have to be very vigilent when maintaining a roof here in the bush as one loose tile and they push it to one side and move right in.
so now we will take fluffy for a long drive, and find him a new home in the bush. it has to be more than kilometers as they are territorial and come back! Hubby will fix the roof and hopefully when a new possum moves into this territory, which one will eventually will, it will not be able to move into our roof.

Here are the beets all canned and will be ready to eat in a few weeks. There are 3 large jars and one medium.
We planted some beetroots that werent a purple colour and have been mixed through all the jars so it will be interesting to see how they tast.
This was from one punnet of seedlings and I even pulled some up while they were growing to cook up and eat. so I am happy with the result. I have got another punnet so I will be planting those as soon as the sun goes from the raised garden patch.

As I type my beets are in the canner after a busy morning of processing them. Love home canned Beetroots. I will go and get some seedlings from bunnings and try for a second crop. Will pots pics as soon as they are done.

Well it's the second day of the new year and I really cant believe it. I know time speeds up as you get older but this is ridiculous.
I spent the morning watering the vegie gardens and collecting anything that is ripe. We pulled up the zucchini as we have heaps processed and ready for winter stews and soups. The beet roots are ready to pull up and bottled and I think I may plant a second lot. Summer is only really just hit so I think a second crop will grow.
I hope you have all recovered from the new year, we had a quiet one with just a few friends and I didn't drink at all and was home in bed by 12.30. So there really wasnt much to recover from. So let's hope this year is a great one, may you all be blessed with health, wealth and happiness.

Well Christmas is over for another year, presses have exchanged and lots of food and drink has been consumed.
This is the quiet after the storm and I relish it!
I hope you all got spilt and that Santa was extra special for you. As for me, spending time with family and friends was wonderful and I was a good girl and did not over indulge.
Now what to do for new years, I just want to stay home but we have been invited to a friends place so we shall see how we feel.

Not a possum was stirring; no-one was around.
We'd left on the table some tucker and beer,

Hoping that Santa Claus soon would be here;

We children were snuggled up safe in our beds,

While dreams of pavlova danced 'round in our heads;
And Mum in her nightie, and Dad in his shorts,

Had just settled down to watch TV sports.

When outside the house a mad ruckus arose;

Loud squeaking and banging woke us from our doze.

We ran to the screen door, peeked cautiously out,

Snuck onto the deck, then let out a shout.

Guess what had woken us up from our snooze,

But a rusty old Ute pulled by eight mighty kangaroos.

The cheerful man driving was giggling with glee,

And we both knew at once who this plump bloke must be.

Now, I'm telling the truth it's all dinki-di,

Those eight kangaroos fairly soared through the sky.
Santa leaned out the window to pull at the reins,

And encouraged the 'roos, by calling their names.

'Now, Kylie! Now, Kirsty! Now, Shazza and Shane!

On Kipper! On, Skipper! On, Bazza and Wayne!

Park up on that water tank. Grab a quick drink,

I'll scoot down the gum tree. Be back in a wink!'

So up to the tank those eight kangaroos flew,

With the Ute full of toys, and Santa Claus too.

He slid down the gum tree and jumped to the ground,

Then in through the window he sprang with a bound.

He had bright sunburned cheeks and a milky white beard.

A jolly old joker was how he appeared.

He wore red stubby shorts and old thongs on his feet,

And a hat of deep crimson as shade from the heat.

His eyes - bright as opals - Oh! How they twinkled!

And, like a goanna, his skin was quite wrinkled!

His shirt was stretched over a round bulging belly

Which shook when he moved, like a plate full of jelly.

A fat stack of prezzies he flung from his back,

And he looked like a swaggie unfastening his pack.

He spoke not a word, but bent down on one knee,

To position our goodies beneath the yule tree.

Surfboard and footy-ball shapes for us two.

And for Dad, tongs to use on the new barbeque.

A mysterious package he left for our Mum,

Then he turned and he winked and he held up his thumb;

He strolled out on deck and his 'roos came on cue;

Flung his sack in the back and prepared to shoot through.

He bellowed out loud as they swooped past the gates-

There are no batterys as it is not a stand alone. we are connected to the grid. so all the power I produce that isnt used by us get fed into the national grid. and if I need more power than I am producing I draw it from the grid.
The system cost us $15,000.00 after government rebates. We saved the money and have no borrowing costs.
Once again, free energy isnt the main reason we did this, we did this because we care about the enviroment.
If your only motivation is money then you need to do the math. how long it takes for you to get the money back depends on your energy useage and how much you get charged for it. Also how much the energy company will pay you for the energy you put int the grid.
Our provider pays us 66cents a kilowatt for the energy we put into the grid, we pay 21 cents a kilowatt for the energy we use.
So we try and not use alot of power while the sun is shining and once the sun goes down we turn on the washing machine and dishwasher. that way we will be 40cents per kilowatt better off.
The solar panels have a life of around 20 years, so I think then you have to replace them.

Just thought Id answer some of the questions from the previous post. There really isnt any maintenance needed for the solar panels except for getting up there and giving them a wash every now and again.
As for paying for itself, I dont understand the question really. Everytime you get a bill for the power do get anything back for it? If I buy a new car, or a television do I expect the appliance to pay for itself. so why is it that people always ask this question when you buy a green option?
I have saved my money and purchased the solar panels because yes my power bills will be lower but thats not the primary reason.
I have purchased the solar panels because I feel its an investment in my childrens future and in the future of the planet.
It took me a long time to save the money as I was buying green power anyway, and for some reason that is more expensive than the coal fired stuff we produce.
So yes my power bills will be lower and Im sure if I do the sums I will recoup some of the money in a few years time but it was never my primary reason. after all I have spent thousands over the years with the energy companies and I never really expected anything back but my power so why should that change.
Only now I get some of my power from the sun and if I dont use all I get I sell it to the power company so they can then sell it to someone else, who for whatever reason cannot get the panels but like me would like to do their bit for the planet and buy green energy.

first power bill

We got our first power bill since the complete solare power and new meter box has gone in. Our average bill here was $300.00 a month, including the shed were we run our business from.
This month the total bill was $30.00. Very excited, Im hopeing to keep it as low as this and maybe even lower.
Will keep you updated, although once the heat gets here, it may go up again as I will run the aircon. Theres being frugal and then there is being silly and in pain.

Apple slice

The apples came from my freezer, I had stewed them and had them frozen from the bag I got from my MIL earlier this year.
There was no sugar in the apples and I only put the sugar in the dough, but none on top. So it wasnt very sweet. But I liked it like that as I am watching what I eat without acually dieting.
Hubby likes his sweeter so tonight Ill make him some custard to go with it.
it was easy, quick and fun to make. So Ill be making some more soon.

todays harvest

Ok dont know why blogger doubled up on the photos, buy hey here they are!
cucumbers in the fron, zuccinins in the middle and the tops of the beetroot in the back. I will lightly cook the beetroot leaves and then toss some olive oil and vinigar through them for a nice salad.
The tomatoes have heaps of fruit but because the temps have been low they are not ripening. I have been bringing them in when they turn orange and let them ripen in here.
it really feels like autumn here, not summer and I wonder if I will get alot from the garden. But they are growing well so the heat will have to hit eventually and then it will be all stations on deck to deal with the glutt, I hope.
I am hoping the weather is better in your part of the world, and that your harvest will be plentiful.

Teddy's first haircut

Here is Teddy being held by wonderson. My wonderful SIL has recently qualified as a dog groomer and has set up a doggie salon at home. I took Teddy to visit his aunty and get a bit of a clean up. I didnt want him shaved or anything drastic. But I did need his face cleaned up as Im sure he couldnt see a thing. Also he was a bit smelly as he is too big for the laundry trough. So she cleaned up his face and his private parts and trimmed his toe nails and clipped the excess fur from his feet. She shampooed and blow dried him and he looked wonderful.
This happened yesterday and he still smells lovely and his coat is fluffy.
The bonus is you can now see his eyes and face!
He wasnt too sure about the clippers, sissors or blow dryer but aunty said he was a good boy and it will get better with every visit.
makes a mummy proud!

well I stayed up to see the moon, unfortunately mother nature had different ideas. She decided that we would miss the whole show. Massive cloud cover and thunderstorms denied us a lookin.
I saw some on the live newsfeed, but I was just too tired to stay up and see it all. Knowing there would be photos on the net. So here is one I didnt take just pinched from the web.

A new toy

This is our new smoker, we bought it from aldi today. Hubby is having fun looking at receipes and all the different things he can cook in it.
we have a pork roast in at the moment, with hickory,apple,cherry and mesquite wood chips in. We got the woodchips from bunnings, but I will keep my cuttings from my own apple and cherry trees in the future. So it will be even cheaper!
will let you know how it turns out.
dont forget the total luner eclipse tonight. it starts around 11.30pm and will go for a while. Everyone in australia should be able to see it, and for others Im sure if you google the net you will find the map that tells you were you can see it. Not good news

today Leanne, her step mum Bec and I were at the oncologist to get the results of her blood test. Unfortunetly it was not good news. Her count was way up and we have now to go and get her scans done.
Please pray to whoever you believe in. we need all the help we can get. She is devastated. I dont know how much more she can cope with.

Zucchini Galor

Lots of Zucchinis from the garden so I baked lots today. First zucchini slice for tea tonight.

Summer

well its the first day of summer and all I can say it what the!
It rained all night long and it cold. the temp today is only going to be 19 degrees celcius/66.2 fahrenheit. Its overcast and cloudy and feels nothing like summer at all.
The only good thing is it might mean a late summer start could mean a late summer finished so I may be able to get a second crop of summer vegies.
Gotta look on the bright side I say.
It also means christmas if fast approaching. Luckily Im almost finished the chrissy shopping with only little things to get.
I hope the start of summer is better for you than it is here, but I still reserve the right to complain about the heat once it gets here.

I thought it was so cute that I bought it on line. I have a similar pattern from soulemama for an adult jacket, but I havnt had the nerve to attempt it. So I thought a baby version would be a great way to start.
Now that I have finished the baby one Ill try the adult one that I have. The weather is still fairly cool so knitting is still a good hobby to have right now.
I may put this cardy and the others under the kmart christmas tree to be given to people as presents for their kids.

busy weekend.

Saturday hubby and I visited his brothers family that live in San Remo near Philip Is. My sister in laws parent were visiting as well and her step mum had helped the kids organise a magic show. So we were lucky enough to see it too! Then saturday night baby girl had her annual dance concert and we was absolutely wonderful in it. She did one dance on her ballet points, just her and another girl who played the boy in the dance and they were soooo good. It looked as good as a professional piece. I was so proud that I almost cried. Ok brag over. lol
Then yesterday hubby and I went on a date day. We drove to Yarragan and had lunch and visited the lolly shop. Spent way too much there! Then drove home through the mountains. When we got home he offered to cook a roast in the Webber and even invited wonderson and his girlfriend over. Baby girl was also home so we all had a wonderful family dinner.
Its weekends like this, filled with family and the simple pleasures in life that I love the best.

this is what victoria looks like right now. huge cloud cover and lots and lots of rain. several severe storm fronts are hitting us right now and for the next few days. I think I will search the internet for plans on how to build and ark. Please have all the animals ready in two by twos to board as soon as I finish.
Really over all this rain. what happened to good old fashioned Melbourne summer, very dry and hot.

One mad Hour

Last night the worst happened. You guessed it, I lost internet connection.
I know terrible!
first I tried my laptop and not wireless, so I jumped on the desktop and NOOOOOOO no internet on that either.
OMG
I tried turning everything off, and resetting the modem. but no nothing
So I knew I had to ring the modem people and go through all the rigamarol of resetting everything.
So first I had to find the scrap of paper that had all the passwords on it.
That started the second hot flush, the first when I acually realised I had been unpluged.
I found all the info, turned on the laptop so all computers would be ready to check to see if and when I was reconnected and rang the help line.
Well 45 minutes later, a really nice lady answered and helped me get it all done. 15 minutes later and Ahhhhhhhh I was back on line.
Ahhhh internet, dont ever leave me again.

garden catchup

My tomatoes are ripening, yummy we should be able to eat some in a few days.

the potatoes in pots are going gangbusters, hopefully they are making spuds as well as leaves.

My herbs are taking off again, we even had some in a potato salad the other day.

and here we have the beetroot and onions with tomatoes in the background. All are growing fantastically.
At this rate, we might be able to get a second crop in before the end of summer.

this is the first Zucini for the season, and there are more babies on the way.
I took a photo of it near the phone so you can see how big it is. I will have to go out everyday now and check them. they grow so quickly.

what a show

we were told it was coming and we had tied everything down or put it away. Got the dogs settled under the outdoor table and waited. Not till two hours after its ETS that we saw it coming in. Suddenly facebook was alive with photos and because we all lived in different places we were able to trac it.

There were posts of its hitting Packy now, and Philip Island is drowing, and OMG here comes the storm, hide the children.

Then it hit with a vengence, it absolutely poured down. You could not hear a thing in the house not even the thunder but you could defenitely feel that!
After about 15-20 minutes it did slow down to a low roar, but if continued to rain until I fell asleep at around 9.30-10ish.
This morning I have woken to the sun shining, the birds singing and the only damamge is lots of plant matter on the veranda, no flooding in the house thank goddness. Still large puddles in the driveway and two tomatoes in pots were over, but Ive fix those,
I dont want to have to do that again in a hurry.
I hope others in its path were as lucky as I was.

thunder and Lightening

Overnight the sun disapeared and the thunder and light show began. I love thunderstorms and eventhough I am aware its happening I am still asleep. If that makes sence.
But last night, even though I was still asleep I was counting the time between the light, bright enough to see even though my eye were closed, and the roll of the thunder. when I got to only 7 seconds apart the rain came down. Thats the last I heard, I must of fallen deeply asleep then.
Its still raining here, quite heavily. So looks like my knees were right again.
dont bother watering your garden Angela, its gonna pour down very soon!

after the long weekend, its back to business as usual. Only I cant believe its November already.
My god where has the year gone.
Still waiting for the warm weather to arrive, but we live in hope.
Over the weekend we planted onions, beetroot and pumkins.
The rest of the garden is going great, so maybe we dont need the heat. Its raining as I type this so we have our woodfire on just so I can get some washing dried. Its shut down and wont use alot of wood, but it is nice to have it on.
hope the weather is nicer where you are, or at least doing what its supposed to be doing at this time of year.

This is a short vid I took of hubby playing in the mud. They boys love to get the 4x4's dirty. Although we had alot of rain, there was not alot of mud to play in. Which is good really as sometimes they get alittle adventures and in the past have done quite a bit of damage. But now they are older, and hopefully a little wiser this wont happen.

Camping again

We were off to the Big River state foresst again, and this time Bronwyn and Dave came along with their daughter and her cuz.
since we were so many we decided to have a roast dinner like we used to many years ago when we all used to go.

I have a camp oven and Bron has one. Mine is on the right with the coals on the lid cooking the roast lamb Bronwyn provided.. In the other one Leannes potatoes, carrots and pumkin are cooking.

I was in charge of peas and corn. With gravy in my pot we had a magnificent feast!
Just because your ruffing it, it dont mean you have to eat substandard food.
I will try to load a very short video of Hubby Don playing in the mud tomorrow.

A path!!

23 years ago I ask for a concrete path to my clothes line. I wanted to buy a trolley for the washing basket so I could push it to the line and not have to bend over as I was pregnant with my first child.
well that child is now 22 and my path is finally in.
better late than never

The finished job. We didnt want to leave a little bit of lawn separated from the large area so we did it all. will make mowing much easier.

a day on the Bay

Well not really the bay, Westernport to be exact. It the first time we took the boat out this season and it was great to be back on the water. I dont know if you can see it, if you click on the photo it will get bigger. There were heaps of boats out today. At one stage it looked like a fleet was invading there were so many.

I had a feeling that we were going to be visited by the water police so I checked to make sure that I had my fishing license on me. Well bugger me if not 40 minutes later the police pulled up beside us and told us we had to move as a huge tanker was on its way. Hubby now wants me to predict the Lotto numbers. lol

This is the tanker, it had two pilot boats with it and lucky the water police to clear its path as like I said there were hundreds of boats in the water.
Hubby and I both caught a Flathead each and a dont-know-what-sort-of-fish-this-is-but-it-makes-great-bait-fish each. So the tally for this year is dead even.
Lets hope I win as I have a reputation to uphold.

Fruit trees

Since everyone loved the photos of the vegie garden here are some shots of the fruit trees. This blurry one is the cherry tree

This is the apricot tree out the front, we have fruit trees out the back and some out the front.

We have lost a few trees to too much water, ironic as I have established and keep alive all these trees through the drought.
It looks like the two peach trees out the front, the almond and the nectarine trees are gone. I will leave them till Im absolutely sure. Its very sad as they were all producint nicely.

Garden update

Look there is a little baby tommie, this is one of the two cherrie tomatoes I planted in pots. I hope to be eating tomatoes well before christmas.

As I was overseas this year I missed out on seed potatoes, these are ones leanne had in her pantry. Ive planted them in big pots and will add more organic soil as they grow. the plan is when ready I will just upend the pots and collect the spuds.

These are some potatoes i had in the pantry, I cant remember what they are called but their the ones with the pinkish skin. These are in the raised garden bed. again dont know how they will go but its all about experimentation. Will mulch these very soon.

My bush beans, these little things dont grow very big but give about 2-3 kilos of beans over the season. I just love them!

A shot of the tomatoes planted a few weeks ago. They were just over the first cross bar then. Look how much they have grown!

Camping weekend

This weekend Leanne, her hubby steve my hubby Don and I all went camping at Big River. we used to go all the time when the kids were little and we loved it. This is a shot of our camper van. in the old days we had a huge tent the kids would sleep in with us.

This is Leannes new tent, it really roomy and has plenty of space just for two.

This is us drinking first thing in the morning, we also do 4x4 driving but the boys do that so we can drink and be merry cause we dont have to drive.

This was our camp fire on saturday night. it was toasty warm and when we went to bed, I could feel the heat and the glow was wonderful to go to sleep to.
We had a ball, and it was sooooooo much easier now that the kids have grown up. It was a cheap holiday in the days were money was tight, and the kids were able to go and run and be free. Also the memories of those days are priceless.

I bet you didnt know that a bathroom sink also doubles at the bin! Its amazing that in all these years no-one has every wondered how the rubbish gets from the sink/bin to the real bin under the sink. Come to think of it no-one has ever wondered how the rubbish under the sink gets to the green bin outside.
It really is a mystery, I wonder how that all happens.
I guess we will never know.

saving energy

thanks everyone for you comments. I feel better having a vent. I have decided that I will quit the gym and save my energy for doing what I have to do, and things I want to do. I was feeling pretty low this morning. Having battle the symptoms of cronic fatique for so long, getting this flu was like the final straw.
So this morning I pull myself up by my bootsraps and did three loads of washing, and cleaned the floors. So then I decided to make myself feel better but cooking on my new wood heater. The weather here has been very up and down, it was nice this morning but then a cold southerly and and rain hit so I got it going. So I have browned some stewing steak from the freezer, and defrosted some vegies I had cooked with tomatoes and put them all in this dish and put it on the heater to slowly cook.
The whole meal cost me nothing, except for the heat, as all the food was home grown and I sourced the wood for free!
By the way the free wood is also heating the house, and drying my clothes. frugal arnt I!
see its the little things in life that make me the happiest!

stand still

Life here at the moment feels like its come to a stand still. I have been so ill that my normal daily routine has gone.
I am trying to decide if I should cancel my gym membership as I have not been since a week before my holiday.
I just cannot get myself up and out the door anymore, and by the time Im moving I feel that my limited energy is better spent getting stuff done here at home.
Its like I get 50 dollars to spend everyday, and going to the gym burns up about 25 of it. So everyday half my daily budget gets spent on something that really wasnt giving me a return.
I dont know if this makes sence but if it does, Id really appreciate some advice.
I have to get over feeling like a failure if I have to stop doing something I used to do. I have to learn that not matter what others say, I am not well, I am not firing on all cylinders and I have to devise a new way of conserving what little energy I have and used it where I get the most return.
Im sure once I make up my mind, my life will start to move forward again. Its hard when I was so busy before and now I just cannot be. Also dealing with the negativity of others is really getting to me. Thank god my hubby is understanding, I would be lost without him.

Pain

Its nearly 5am and Im on the couch again. My throat is on fire and I can hardly swallow. My ears are killing me and my glands are all swallen. At least with the fire going Im not coughing so thats a bonus.
Looks like back to the doctors again, and some more antibiotics. This will be my third lot, which is alot for me as I havent had any for about 10 years!
sorry to winge to you but at 5 in the morning there is no one else around.
I am so tired but unable to sleep because of the pain.

I have woken up, cleaned the breakfast dishes, half made my bed, cleaned the puppys pen, taken puppy for a walk to workshop, then had to wash puppy, did a quick runaround with the vacume and Im about to hang out the puppys blankie'.
So now Im very tired.
Will need to rest before tackling making dinner, Ive decided chicken soup. It worked wonders on wonderson.

Not having a good week

my cough is back and its driving me crazy. I have coughed so much I feel like Ive broken a rib.
So I have not been doing too much. Resting most days, and only doing one or two jobs. Today the weather was fairly nice to start with so I had all the doors and windows open. then the roll of thunder and a few minutes later, torrential rain.
Its still raining now, but its just a steady rain, so hopefully it will soak into the ground and not puddle too much. although I dont know how much more the ground can take.
So Im on the couch, with my blankie and laptop, watching the lord of the rings.
A nice hot cup of tea and I feel so much better.
My husbands godsons, sister is getting married on saturday, so I really need to rest to be able to go. I think we will just go to the reception and not stay too late, gone are the days when I could go to the church and hang around for the reception and stay all night.
More thunder as I type, sound great! I love a good thunderstorm. dont you.

The Help

Yesterday I went and saw the movie "The Help". It was brilliant. Its about a young white girl living in the south, who comes home after being away in collage. she wants to be a writer and gets a job in the local paper but decideds to write a book about all the african-american maids that work for the wealthy white familys.
It is set in the 50's and when racial inequality was sky high.
It deals with those issues beautifully, without being gory. So its a good movie to take young adults to. It would certanly get the conversations going.
I really enjoyed it and its does bring a few tears to your eyes, but it has it light moments too.
I hope you all get an opportunity to go see it.

Its all about poo

I have come to the realisation that my life is all about dealing with poo!
Everyday I clean the kitty litter, and now I have a puppy that is a pooing machine. it used to be baby poo, and now its animal poo.
I have also realised I have always had to deal with peoples metaphorical poo, but now Im just to old and tried to do so any more.
So I am getting much better with other peoples poo, unfortunately I still have to deal with the furry kids poo, or boy would this house stink!

Daylight savings starts

Daylight savings started today. I was in bed at 8.30 last night and woke up at 10.30 this morning. Then adjusted the clock and bingo half the day gone! I was so tried yesterday anyone would have thought I had acually played in the grandfinal.
Unfortunately the Geelong football team was stronger on the day and won. But I am very proud of my boys and next year we will be back better than ever!
So Im off to have my breakfast, lunch, or whatever this meal is going to be and try and forget yesterday and enjoy the first day of exra daylight

for those of you that do not live in Victoria, Australia. Today is the grandfinal of the AFL. My team is the team that everyone loves to hate, Collingwood. We won the final last year and we are in the game again this year. I would love to see the mighty pies win back to back flags. Only one problem, the other team is Geelong. Pretty much the only team to beat us this year!
It will be a great game, and I truely hope the best team wins, although I am hopeing that team is Collingwood.
So think of me thisafternoon, I will either be deliriously happy or a very upset girl.

This is were Teddy slept last night, and he was such a good boy. He has spent time in this over the last two days, only during the day the big blanket isnt on. He didnt like it too much at first but when he cried Molly would go over and lick him through the grate. then if that didnt work she would bark once and hed stop. So last night the big heavy blanket was placed over it so that the wind would be shut out and he was put in with his bed, food water and toys. I only heard him bark once and that was around the 2am mark. then Molly did her mama bark and all was quiet again till morning.
A much better arangement me thinks.
He was supposed to be put in the night before but hubby stayed up to watch the Brownlow, a medal night for our AFL footy.
He then was supposed to put Teddy in after that. Well he just couldnt do it, hes such a softy so he slept with him.
But as Teddy has adapted so well it was all worry for nought.

I survived!

I have survived my first night with my new baby. He only woke up the once to go out and do his business. But unfortunately he then decided it was time to play.
He was awake for about 45 minutes and he would not take no for an answer. He has worked out that if he barks he is soooo cute that he gets picked up. We had to put a stop to that! Hubby heard the barking but was able to sleep through the most of it. I was on the couch, with Teddy in his bed on the floor next to me. I got him to sleep by having my hand on him. Then once asleep I could go to sleep, easy really.

1) if one is prone to coughing fits, one must make sure bladder is always empty.
2) never go shopping to aldi on a thursday morning. Bad move, very bad.
3) no matter how sick you are, if your child is sick you will get up make chicken soup, grab some cough lollies and medication and drive all the way to their house to look afterthem.
Its what we mothers do!

1) If I feel well, I really am not well. I cannot get up go like a wirlwind and expect not to crash the next day. I am not wonder woman.
2)Everything that needs doing will wait for me. Apparently I am the only one that sees all the little things, and not so little, that need doing. Seems like Im the only one that cares if we live in a clean house or not.
3)Augmentin Tablets wreak havic with your digestive system. Enough said!
4)Its been proven beyond all reasonable, and not so reasonable, doubt. Melbournes weather is VERY changeable.
5) everyone will stand in the kitchen and tell you that we are all out of something but no one else is capable of going shopping to replace it.
Im sure I will have more pearls of wisdom for you in the coming days.

crazy weather

Yesterday the weather was wonderful. A very nice 29 degrees celcius. But in the afternoon the wind picked up and by the night it was blowing a gale. I was worried as last year we had huge winds that knocked off all my blossoms which affected the amount of fruit we harvested from our trees.
Then the thunder and lightening started and torrential rain. But this morning even though its colder, only about 15 degrees celcius, it doesnt look like much damage was done. lets hope the bees get the job done before anymore wild weather hits us.
It is much colder today, and because of the temp drop the coughing has started again. Last night I thought I was going to throw up because I was coughing so much.
I have more anti biotics, penicillian this time, so hopefully this will clear the lungs. results of blood test suggest that my liver and kidney functions are down.
I wonder what that means.
Oh well as long as I have the energy to do one or two jobs a day I am happy.

yesterday I said I had the urge to dig, well I made a slight miscalculation. I sat down and fell asleep. So this morning hubby weeded the garden beds. They were not that bad as I had done them earlier. We both drove to Bunnings and I got my diggers seedlings. Above are the eggplants and sweet chillies. And below are 8 different tomatoe varieties.

And here is mama, they have taken over the chicken coop. Thats ok as we want to rethink the chickens. We want to be able to leave them overnight and know that they are safe. So we are going to make a totally enclosed area for them. Just not really sure where or how just yet.

The weekend is looking lovely weatherwise. I have an increadible urge to go outside and dig.
I have just vacumed the living area and Im not feeling too bad. The antibiotics have done there job. I think its because I havnt had any for years, my body must think there a wonder.
So If I still feel good in a little while I may even go outside and potter and see what I can get ready for the spring planting. I havnt got any seedlings started so I will go and get them from bunnings. They had diggers stuff last year so I will check it all out.

I have only left the house to visit the doctors. I am on antibiotics but I dont feel like they are working yet.
I might have to go back and get some more.

I have come home and crashed. My head hurts, my nose is blocked, my chest is tight and Im going from hot to cold. Apparently a bad chest infection is going round and I just didnt want to miss out.
I have made a doctors appointment for today, so hopefully a dose of antibiotics will do the trick.
Even my glands are up.
Not feeling the best, just want to lay on the couch but will try and get moving. I have got all the washing up to date, and the dusting and vacuming.
But I just might have to be happy with just that.

My body clock is all outta wack! I am so tired during the day, but wide awake at night. I tried not sleeping during the day,and I havent since friday. I have also tried taking a sleeping tablet, but all that did was make me even more tired during the day. and not sleeping was impossible.
I was up at around 7ish this morning, I havnt slept all day and I was inbed fast asleep at 9.30. I had to go to bed at this time as I nearly fell asleep on the couch. I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, but and hour and a half later, I was wide awake again. its now 12.30am. I think I will get the washing up to date. Nothing else to do really.
this is very annoying. what else can I do.

Im home and I cant be happier! I am sore and tired but content. We have come back to a whole new world. There are blossoms on the fruit trees, the geese are sitting on eggs and there is a new lamb in the paddock! Spring has def arrived!
So now to get some energy back and get stuck into all the spring activity needed to get this place ship shape.

Last day in greece

Today is our last day in greece. Yesterday we visited the sight of Delfi, where the temple of Apollo was and the oracle sat. All the kings of greece would consult here before any major decisions.
I will post pics when I get home as the internet in this hot spot is slow.
So now I am going to repack all my things, pay my bill and head to the airport. We fly out this afternoon. Holidays are nice, but I am def a homebody. I miss my home, my kids and all my friends. Its been an amazing trip, I have seen some awsome things and I have meet some relatives I have not seen in a very long time and felt the love they have for me.
I am feeling very blessed, but tired and ready for HOME!!

at the top of the acropolis is the parthanon. Temple of athena patron goddess of athens.

A smaller temple to athena, lies near the parthanon.
The climb is a killer but well worth it! The new museum is a little further on and is fantastic. unfortunately we were not able to take photos in there.

the ancient city of Messini was huge! we only were able to get around half of it. I was just to exhausted to do the lot. But we did get to see two well preserved ampitheaters and the temple of Artemise. I will post more pics of this place when I get home and the internet is faster. The blue ting maa is how everything looks here, its the sun. Its just so bright.

sitting on the balcony early in the morning and enjoying the cool breeze in samos this morning. I have met even more relatives. boy I have a lot here! They are all wonderful and loving and I feel special. We came over from the mainland on a boat but will fly back to athens on monday. the weather here is HOT!!!!! Today we are having a family BBQ back at the village and on sunday my cousin is taking me on the grand tour of the whole island. should get some great photos then. Hopefully will be able to post some soon.

sitting in my pj's just having a lazy day. Yesterday did all the housework so the I leave a clean house. Hopefully I will return to same.

This week to date I have
stocked up on pet food so that baby girl can feed my hairy babies while Im away
Increased the stock pile of wood, will need to add to it this weekend
worked on the baby quilt for Narelle in queensland, soooo many little squares, what was i thinking!
begun to pack, I think I have everything. But you can never be sure
been to the pharmacy and got my scrips filled, in my younger days I didnt need to do this, but now I cannot go anywhere without my meds.
And stocked the house with plenty of food, there is always heaps but I got extra coffee, tea, sugar and toilet paper as the boys come here from over the workshop for their needs.

Remember those logs we got a few weeks ago, now they look like this. And we still have three logs to go. Hubby and I were very tired saturday night after doing all this work.

Today I made all these squares, there are lots, and lots, and lots of them. They are now ready to be made into bigger squares, for a babys quilt.

Today I got the suitcases out and as I remember I have been packing stuff. This is my carry on bag. Looks like my cat wants to come too!

I have just finished watching a movie about an amazing women named Nancy Wake. So was born in New Zealand, moved with her family to australia when she was only 2 years old.
She found herself in France when the second world war began.
She was very involved in the french resistance, and was a huge thorn in the side of the Nazi's. They gave her the code name, the white mouse, because they could not find her.

Nancy Wake was truelly a strong, and couragous women, she died only a few days ago at the age of 98. The world has lost one the best ones.
I dont know why we never learnt about her in school. I wish we had.

A lonely weekend

this weekend was not as exciting as I was expecting it.
I was home alone, all weekend except for saturday night. We were invited to a trivia night for a local footy club.
But hubby was busy all saturday and he had arranged to go 4x4 driving with wonderson and some others.
Not that I begrude them spending time, only that I spend all week alone, he works very late, sometimes he comes home after Im in bed.
I kinda like having someone to talk to on the weekends.
I know my problem is not that huge on the world scale, just saying Im kinda lonely.
At least while we are away, he will spend all his time with me, I hope.

starting to get ready

For those who dont already know, on the 22nd of this month hubby and I are jetting off to Greece.
Its now getting close enough that I am starting to think, ok I need to pack that!
Its starting with the electrical stuff. I have purchases an adaptor, so I can plug in my camera and recharge that. I dont know if we are taking our phone with us or just getting a cheap one over there. We have been told thats the cheapest option re phone calls.
Now I have decided to take the laptop. That way I can download all my photos everynight, and keep up with all you guys while Im over there.
Oh yeah and the family back home. lol
So now the butterflies have started, I am not one who likes to be away from home. It always happens but once I hit the road it gets better.
So if any of you wise women have any tips for me please let me know. This is the first time in a long time that I have left this country and I really am a novice.

For weeks before my new heater was installed we were having the coldest temps in over 30 years.
Great I thought, after the second wood heater gets put in I wont have to turn the ducted heating on at all.
But Noooooooo
Now the new heater is in we are having the warmest August in 40 years.
Bet you didnt know I controlled the weather did you.
Now if I could work out how to controll it for good not evil that would be great.
I am enjoying the sunshine though.

Today is my 23rd wedding anniversary. Boy has that time flown! Hubby is gone this morning on a course to do with keeping his Roadworthy license. But he will be back this afternoon and he has asked if I would like to go to the movies on a date. We didnt buy eachother any gifts, at least I didnt and I told him not to as we have spent lots of money on the new heater and we leave for greece in 23 days.
On the heater update, my poor cat is very confused. This morning he ran to the old heater meowing, which usually means it needs more wood. But we have let that one go out so we can clean and do maintenance on it. So I pick Sabastion up and sat with him in front of the new heater. But as its a radiant it has no fan. I think this is what is confusing him. He likes to feel the warm air blowing through his fur.
Must be a mid life crisis, I get him a red convertable.

A new Heater

Here is the new heater, just installed and ready to be lit. Its a radiant heater, so no fan to run and it has a cook top so I will be able to put a pot of soup on in the morning and have it ready to eat by night. Save on electricity and get more bang for your buck each time you put a log on the fire.
now I will have to get one of the old fashion kettles and I will always have hot water to make a cuppa with.
So now you can just pop it and the kettle will always be on!
I cant wait to light her.

Well I have been knitting and knitting and following the instructions. And this is what I ended up with. Doesnt look like much. I wonder what I did wrong.

Hang on if I fold this bit in like this,

and this bit in like this, Surprise! Its a baby jacket.
Amazing isnt it. All I have to do now is stitch up the two shoulder seams and add buttons.
I wont sew them up yet. I want to do another so that it all jells in my head.
I am pretty proud of myself. Thank you Elizabeth Zimmermann, and the women of youtub.
